CRY BABY (FM Elle, Nervous, Subtract)
With her feet planted firmly in the underground and her head high in the clouds, DJ Cry Baby’s meteoric impact on NYC nightlife has been undeniable since her arrival. By demonstrating a masterful control of both the tone and feel of her sets—and, by extension, her audience—she’s set herself apart from both “It” DJs and scene veterans alike with her fresh take on techno and house.
Her upward trajectory increase as her House On Mute parties took her to such lauded venues as Brooklyn’s Output, Le Bain, Verboten and Cielo in NYC, Miami’s The Electric Pickle, and countless cavernous Brooklyn warehouses. With brand new releases on Euphoria, Newhouse Grooves and Nervous Records, and coming off a recent successful European tour in summer 2015, her focus has shifted to production and expanding beyond the United States, as her enchantment of the tech-house world continues!
REMOVE HYPHEN (Plus Plus, Frisson)
Sassy selections, with throbbing, lush bass and dazzling chords, Remove Hyphen crafts sets that are thoughtful and complex--creating a cathartic dance floor rich with sub-aquatic beats.
Remove Hyphen bought her first plane ticket to India. There she studied Tabla, traditional Indian drums, at a school in the southern jungles of Kerela. This initial adventure began a life long pursuit of creative self-determination that would lead to musical experiments in China with the Pipa, an ancient lute, to Spain where she sought a guitar making family of gypsies to craft a Flamenco guitar, and to Jamaica where her knowledge of stringed instruments led to jamming out Reggae skanks with Rastas on the beaches of Negril.
Remove Hyphen's understanding of sound has influenced her productions and track selections to reflect broad musical experiences. Dubby techno atmospheres alongside gorgeous chords combine to create the raw and the beautiful, satisfying the mind and the body. Her taste has led to a residency with Devotion and invitations to share music at a wide variety of events appealing to different crowds. This open spirit is reflected in her productions, which span genres: deep acid, industrial, electronica grooves to cocoon room techno; Remove Hyphen seeks to dismiss the things that separate people, using dance music as a tool for freedom.
