MARY YUZOVSKAYA (Monday off, Unter, Aphotic)
Born in Moscow and currently based in Brooklyn, New York, techno DJ and a record label owner Mary Yuzovskaya is a unique phenomenon in the scene. A ballerina with a classical background and a degree in piano performance, Mary has become an electronic music DJ over a decade ago.
She graced the decks of all hotspots in the Russian club scene and moved to Berlin in 2009 where she eventually established her identity as an electronic music artist. In 2013, Mary traveled to New York, where she first got familiar with the US scene by working at distribution wing of notorious record store Halcyon the shop. She lives in New York until now, holding two major residencies: Aphotic and Unter, the most exciting underground techno parties in Brooklyn, both showcasing the best in local and international talent. While Aphotic is focusing on a deeper side of techno, Unter is bringing a harder musical approach to the listeners attention. In 2017 Mary launched her very own record label called Monday Off. Its ethos is to showcase artists that explore techno's hypnotic side; specifically where trippy and dark productions go deep yet dynamic.
Since the beginning of her DJ career Mary shared the decks with many talented and internationally recognised musicians, such as Marcel Dettmann, DVS1, Emika, Stephanie Sykes, Developer, Somewhen, Claudio PRC, Henning Baer, Xhin, Tommy Four Seven, Perc, Dimi Angelis, Deadbeat, Anthony Parasole, Jus-ed, Edit Select, Dino Sabatini, Norman Nodge and many more. Her stripped-back, blisteringly precise techno vinyl sets along with her painstakingly professional approach to the craft of DJing have earned her a heavy-hitter reputation in some of the most notable clubs across Europe and North America. She has been traveling the world performing at such spots as Tresor in Berlin, Arma 17 in Moscow and Output in Brooklyn to name a few, playing a variety of genres, from atmospheric and dub to energetic techno bombs. She is a natural-born DJ, mixing vinyl with style, grace and lightness.
REMOVE HYPHEN (Plus Plus, Frisson)
Sassy selections, with throbbing, lush bass and dazzling chords, Remove Hyphen crafts sets that are thoughtful and complex--creating a cathartic dance floor rich with sub-aquatic beats.
Remove Hyphen bought her first plane ticket to India. There she studied Tabla, traditional Indian drums, at a school in the southern jungles of Kerela. This initial adventure began a life long pursuit of creative self-determination that would lead to musical experiments in China with the Pipa, an ancient lute, to Spain where she sought a guitar making family of gypsies to craft a Flamenco guitar, and to Jamaica where her knowledge of stringed instruments led to jamming out Reggae skanks with Rastas on the beaches of Negril.
Remove Hyphen's understanding of sound has influenced her productions and track selections to reflect broad musical experiences. Dubby techno atmospheres alongside gorgeous chords combine to create the raw and the beautiful, satisfying the mind and the body. Her taste has led to invitations to share music at a wide variety of events appealing to different crowds. This open spirit is reflected in her productions, which span genres: deep acid, industrial, electronica grooves to cocoon room techno; Remove Hyphen seeks to dismiss the things that separate people, using dance music as a tool for freedom.
